Some of you already walked on the Via de la Plata, some of you want to walk on the route from Sevilla to Santiago in the future.
Do you know that in the province of Badajoz, between Los Santos de Maimona and Villa Franca de los Barros, the construction of an oil refinery is planned? The Via de la Plata, runs through the middle!
The residents, many environmental organizations, associations and the Amigos del Camino de Santiago de Sevilla are planning a protest event .On Saturday, 7th of March 2009 all the defenders of the Via de la Plata will meet in Los Santos de Maimona.
The protest march runs between Los Santos and Villa Franca de los Barros (about 15km), probably by traditional vehicles. The event is planned as a protest, a day of information and a celebration at the same time.
The Via de la Plata passes through an area which is well known for its vineyards, its olive trees and oak groves, where the famous Iberian pigs are kept. There are also living a number of rare animals.
The Via de la Plata is on the World Heritage List of the UNESCO. It has been one of the main pilgrimage routes to the grave of St.James. Tradition, history, art and culture as well as long distances of unspoilt nature shape the old Roman road and the people of the region want from the bottom of their hearts its cultural and intellectual heritage. And of course they are afraid in front of the unpredictable consequences of the construction of a giant oil refinery. They are afraid for their health and economic ruin if escaping oil and chemicals pollute soil and water.

Einige von Euch sind die Via de la Plata gelaufen, einige von Euch möchten die Route von Sevilla nach Santiago noch in Angriff nehmen.
Wußtet Ihr, dass in der Provinz Badajoz, zwischen Los Santos de Maimona und Villa Franca de los Barros der Bau einer Ölraffinerie geplant ist? Die Via de la Plata verläuft mittendurch!
Die Anwohner, zahlreiche Umweltorganisationen, Vereine und u.a. die Amigos del Camino de Santiago de Sevilla haben zu einem Protestmarsch aufgerufen. Am Samstag, den 07. März 2009 treffen sich alle, die den Bau der Ölraffinerie verhindern wollen in Los Santos de Maimona.
Der Protestmarsch verläuft zwischen Los Santos und Villa Franca de los Barros (ca. 15km), vermutlich wird der Weg gefahren. Die Veranstaltung ist Informationstag, Protestmarsch und Fest zugleich.
Das Gebiet, durch das die Silberstrasse verläuft, ist bekannt für seinen Weinanbau, seine Oliven- und Steineichenhaine, in denen die berühmten Iberischen Schweine gehalten werden. Ebenso leben dort eine Anzahl von vor dem Aussterben bedrohter Tiere.
Die Via de la Plata steht auf der Weltkulturerbeliste der UNESCO. Sie ist seit Jahrhunderten eine der wichtigsten Pilgerrouten zum Apostelgrab. Tradition, Geschichte, Kunst und Kultur sowie lange Strecken unberührter Natur prägen die alte Römerstrasse und die Menschen, die an und mit ihr leben, möchten aus tiefstem Herzen ihr kulturelles und geistiges Erbe bewahren. Und natürlich fürchten sie sich vor den unberechenbaren Folgen des Baus einer gigantischen Ölraffinerie. Sie haben Angst um ihre Gesundheit und vor wirtschaftlichem Ruin, falls austretendes Öl und Chemikalien Ackerböden und Gewässer verseuchen.
